Joan Jett & the Blackhearts coming to Shooting Star Dec. 1
Iconic female rock 'n' roll artist, Joan Jett, will be performing live on Friday, Dec.1, at Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are sold out.
Joan Jett began her music career at just 15 years old with the formation of her band, The Runaways, which was discovered and signed by Mercury Records. The Runaways became highly popular in Japan, but by 1980, the group broke up and Jett began pursuing a solo career. With no luck getting signed, Jett independently released a self-titled debut album. The rock 'n' roll style album caught the attention of Boardwalk Records, who signed her and reissued the album under the title "Bad Reputation." After being reissued, the album soared to No. 51 on the American charts.
After the release of "Bad Reputation," Jett formed the band, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. The group's major breakthrough came after the release of their first album, "I Love Rock-n-Roll." The title track was an enormous success, spending seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982. Other hits include "Crimson and Clover" and "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)."
Outside of her own music, Jett works as a producer for many female-led rock bands, signing them to her record label, Blackheart Records. She is currently touring while continuing to make her own music; she released her latest album, "Unvarnished," in 2013. Jett has been described as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and the Godmother of Punk. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, and has pioneered the way for females in a male-dominated world of rock music.
