Betty L. Keller
Betty Lucille (Eckstein) Keller, age 95, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, in the Cottages at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A memorial service will be held in the fall.
Betty was born, the 9th of 14 children, on January 23, 1923, to John and Grace (Hubbard) Eckstein in Hancock, MN. She was raised in Hancock and graduated from high school as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. She went on to attend St. Cloud University, on an academic scholarship, and received her teaching certificate. Betty taught country school for several years before moving to California; where she helped make airplanes for the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter". On June 18, 1946, she was married to Burton Keller and together they raised their two children in Pipestone, MN. After Burton's death in 1995, she moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to her family, especially her grandchildren.
Faith, family, and a glass of Chardonnay were tops on Betty's list of joys. She was active in her church and in the community. She was devout in her faith and had a very personal journey with Christ and the Bible. She was also a member of her bridge club and P.E.0. Betty loved to entertain company and relished time spent with her grandchildren. She was also a talented and prolific writer.
She is survived by her two children, Lynn (Dick) Pettit of Detroit Lakes, and David (Mary Jane) Keller of Park Rapids, MN; two siblings: Lois Morey of Walnut, CA; and Jack (Arlene) Eckstein of Brooten, MN; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren, with another on the way.
The David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family.
