Raider girls win back-to-back for first time this season

The Lake Park-Audubon girls basketball team won back-to-back games for the first time this season after defeating Mahnomen-Waubun 51-31 in a Pine to Prairie Conference South game Thursday night in Lake Park.

Etta Miosek and Lily Peterson led the Raider offense with 12 points each and the LP-A defense shut down the Thunderbirds holding the visitors to only 12 points in the first half.

Kay Pederson scored all eight of her points on a field goal and six-for-six shooting from the free throw line in the first half. LP-A led 21-12 at the break.

Miosek took over in the second half scoring 11 of her 12 points in the latter frame.

Peterson was four of six from the three-point line, making a pair of long balls in both halves to record her dozen.

Grace Bowers added a pair of threes and nine points.

Mahnomen-Waubun’s Makena Spaeth led all scorers with 14 points. The Thunderbirds were solid at the line making 11-15 (73 percent) free throws but could not compete with a 6-0 deficit in three-point baskets made. LP-A shot 13-22 (59 percent) from the line.

LP-A improved to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Thunderbirds fell to 6-7 and 2-4.

The Raiders travel to Rothsay (1-9) Saturday, Jan. 13 for a 4 p.m. game. Mahnomen-Waubun plays at Win-E-Mac (4-6) Friday night, Jan. 19.

In the nightcap of the boys and girls doubleheader, the Thunderbirds (8-5) handed the Raiders (2-9) an eighth consecutive loss 63-46.

Raiders make it three in a row

The Raiders traveled to Rothsay (1-9) Saturday and extended their win streak to three games with a 65-33 victory.

Nine LP-A shooters scored in the game led by Maria Schauer’s 14 points.

The Raiders led at halftime 31-18 and held the Tigers to 15 points in the second half.

Kailee Lefebvre scored nine points for LP-A. Grace Bowers, Carlie Ecker and Etta Miosek each added eight points.

Jayna Gronewold and Kenzie Lankow were in double figures for the Tigers scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Raiders improve to 5-7 overall and go for a fourth straight victory at home Thursday, Jan. 18 against Win-E-Mac (5-6).
