Blue Devils double up Laker girls
The Prairie Centre Blue Devils stayed in the hunt for a Mid-State Conference championship defeating Detroit Lakes 6-3 at the Wadena Ice Arena Thursday night.
Gabby Olson recorded five points on a pair of goals and three assists for the Blue Devils, including the game-winner at two-minutes, 32-seconds of the second period.
Anna Payne got the Lakers on the scoreboard early in the second period to cut the Devils’ lead to 2-1.
Karrigan Hallisey opened the scoring in the first period at 1:38 to close to within 3-2. Both Hallisey and Payne had multipoint nights with a goal and an assist.
Olson scored her second of the night from Megan Och for the eventual winner and Shelby Otte added two late goals counted by an even strength, unassisted score from DL defenseman Payton Carlblom for the 6-3 final. Otte’s second goal was an empty net goal.
The Lakers put four more shots on goal in the game 26-22. Kyndra McDougall made 16 saves for the Lakers. Isabelle Hovel made 23 stops to earn the victory.
With the victory, the Blue Devils move into a tie for first place in the conference at 3-1 with Northern Lakes. Those two teams meet Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Pequot Lakes and each face Park Rapids Area to complete the Mid-State schedule.
The Lakers played their sixth and final conference game finishing 3-3 in third place. Park Rapids is winless in four Mid-State games.
DL is 6-12 overall and travel to Fergus Falls Saturday, Jan. 13 for a 2 p.m. game with the 10-10 Otters.
