Tuesday, Feb. 27 At 4:22 p.m. a vehicle was reported to be on fire on 370th Street in Ogema; it was fully engulfed in flames when authorities arrived. Wednesday, Feb. 28 At 9:55 a.m., a theft was reported at Detroit Lakes High School; cash had been taken out of a jacket in the locker room. At 3:30 p.m., a caller reported the theft of eight televisions from the 59er in Detroit Lakes; the theft is believed to have occurred sometime in the past month and a half.
Thursday, March 8 Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society: Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. inside the Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. This meeting is by arrangement with the Becker County Historical Society. In case of inclement weather, there will be a radio announcement cancelling the meeting. First Security Bank's board of directors has appointed Melissa Peterson as president of the Detroit Lakes bank branch. Peterson has been with First Security Bank since November 2016. She has a Bachelor's Degree in mortuary science from the University of Minnesota, a Master's Degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix, and is a certified public accountant. Originally from Fergus Falls, Minn., Peterson has over 18 years of experience in banking and finance, having previously worked as a credit analyst and as a VP/Ag and commercial lender.
Before the early-morning fog could clear, two vehicles crashed just north of town on Highway 59 today. Preliminary reports say no one was injured when a van and a truck collided, causing extensive front-end damage to the van. The truck ended up in the ditch, rolled on its side, also with extensive damage. Car parts were strewn along the highway for a few hundred feet. The fog was still quite thick as officers and EMS tended to the scene, so other emergency vehicles parked about a mile out from the accident to warn passing vehicles to slow down.
L&M Fleet Supply has recently announced the addition of their 10th retail store, which will be located in Thief River Falls, Minn. The new, 80,000 square foot store will be located on Highway 59 in the building formerly occupied by KMart. The tentative plan is to remodel the existing building to suit an L&M store and open to the public in late 2018 or early 2019. The store will initially operate with a staff of about 45-50 employees. More information regarding the open staff positions will be advertised locally and posted to their website in the coming months.
Average retail gasoline prices in Minnesota have fallen 1 cent per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.48/gallon yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,856 gas outlets in Minnesota. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.50/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Tuesday, Feb. 20 At 8:40 a.m. a caller reported an attempted break in on West Elm Street in Detroit Lakes. At 10:06 a.m. a package was reportedly stolen from the mail area of a building on the 200 block of Barbara Avenue in Detroit Lakes. At 3:02 p.m. a caller reported a drill, batteries, wrenches, sockets, and saw blades had been taken from a garage on the 20000 block of County Highway 32 in Rochert. Wednesday, Feb. 21 At 10:56 a.m. a caller reported the theft of a license from the 200 block of Laura Avenue in Detroit Lakes.
